Wool is the healthiest source of fiber for bedding, clothing and home
We stand by our Horned Dorset Sheep, considered an heirloom and endangered breed of sheep. For over five generations, we have sheperded our beautiful flock of sheep best known for their wool and meat. Our sheep are part of our family. We respect them, we appreciate them and we love them. Our dorset sheep are hardy and provide the best wool for bedding. We shave their wool once a year and make wool bedding and other home goods for a multitude of health benefits.

Wool is the healthiest bedding and clothing. It is also healthy for the planet, as it does not require the water that cotton and hemp do and does not create soil erosion.
Wool creates its own natural microclimate, keeping you warm in the cold and cool in the heat while naturally resisting odors and fire.
Difference between wool and down
Down bedding starts out cold, whereas wool starts out warm. While down and wool clothing are both insulative, down doesnt breathe like wool does, making you sweat in down. Wool’s breathability and ability to wick the moisture you generate, makes it an ideal fabric for farmers and fisherman because you can wear it in a wide range of temperatures and can even get wet and not feel wet or cold.
Did you know:
Racecar drivers wear wool because it is natural fire resistant?
Wool also has great insulation and acoustic properties.
The US government is turning back to wool because they found that the synthetics were highly flammable, toxic and did not last like wool does.
Europeans, Mongolians and many other countries have been sleeping and clothing themselves in wool for thousands of years.
In fact, Mongolians make their houses (yurts) out of wool that has been firmly felted so that it is water resistant. It was only in the early 1900’s that America created the metal coil box springs, coinciding with America’s fascination with “super size me” technology. These days, some people find they have a reaction to the metals used or other synthetic materials.
100% grass fed
Our sheep are 100% grass fed. That means no corn, no soy, no grains, just grass grown in the pastures. They graze on our organically tended pastures full time. We are fortunate here in the Laguna de Santa Rosa region to be able to irrigate our pastures with the Santa Rosa Reclaimed Wastewater which allows us to have green grass year round for our flock.
The sheep we do harvest for our 100% grass fed meat are the ones who we have determined will not make a good breeding animal for the flock whether it is their horns are not strong enough or their wool is not to the standard that we strive for. When we harvest, our sheep are not traumatized by getting into a trailer and going off to a meat processor far away. They are harvested here with a prayer in a quiet atmosphere and processed at Willowside Meats just a mile or so down the road. We utilize all parts.
Because they are 100% grass fed and live a peaceful life, their meat is rich in flavor and has a tender and soft meat that is not gamey. We carefully select the ones who may not have the confirmation, or wool quality we aspire to for breeding but will still provide the value of gracing our tables with for nourishment.
Also, it is good to note that the lamb we are referring to are not those cute little lambs you see frolicking in the winter fields. They are close to full grown and are between 8 and 12 months old. They average about 80 to 90 lbs live weight. Our lamb meat is not mutton. Mutton is a sheep that is several years old and is considered a delight in the UK.
Average cost per lb of cut and wrapped lamb meat is approximately $10-11 per lb.
Available for purchase as a 1/2 lamb or a whole lamb throughout the year while supplies last.
1/2 lamb fits into a milk crate box, so will easily fit in your freezer.
We wrap the meat cuts in butcher paper because its better for the environment with no freezer burn.
Sheep make great pasture managers and live freely among our horses, goats, dogs and chickens.
By choosing to purchase a whole or half lamb from Casari Ranch, you're making a conscious decision to support local sustainable farming with virtually no carbon footprint food, and enjoy delicious, high-quality organic meat.
"We just had our first lamb burger from your lamb. Delicious. Not gamey at all, but very lovely deep meaty flavor. Can’t wait to try the other offerings. Thank you!"—Steve
